Major impact installation piece was actually a self portrait by Peter Gronquist when we first entered Scope.
This was the first year for Scope‘s new location on the beach.
Nice embroidered nod to Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.
Cellular triptych.
I made a new friends at the VIP brunch on the second day of our trip at the Pulse show. Bianca Pratorius and her friend Babette Herschberger are local arists in Miami, and had work at the shows. Both were great to talk to. Bianca’s work (above) was immediately recognizable at Scope.
Blurry S+M.
These three were real dears.
These four were from one of my favorite San Francisco galleries- White Walls.
These tires are actually carved black marble out of one piece of stone by Fabio Viale. They are intertwined and majorly heavy. Pretty flawless and definitely rad.
Toothpicks. Not really. But try moving this without getting a splinter.
I really liked the flow and ease of this piece.
We saw video of a wall of this stuff. My OCD loved it.
These were scary pets. I thought they were kinda fun.
Scope felt younger. More accessible, and less formal. These were well displayed.
Tyson Beckford. No big.
Untitled was pretty weak last year. We were invited, uninvited, and invited again. The setting is nice but the lighting is terrible. Here are some of the goods.
I liked these metal wall hung sculptures. I think they cut a great line and are versatile.
I have always liked Polaroids. These pretended to be, but still tickled me. I like the amateur cosmonaut nature too.
These were made out of nylons. I thought the irregular geometry and transparent quality was effortless and really dramatic.
I liked this diptych. Brave use of color and is similar to the organic effect I try to create.
Support the arts.
I liked the scale and contrast of this triptych.
This is made of bronze. Even the pizza. Who green lights these ideas? Somebody at the pouring has to say something like- “Cool, so we are casting that….. Why?”
This is anodized. Color comes from a chemical reaction. Similar to an i-pod case.
Big trip- Loved a trip to Miami in December. Lots to see and plenty of scenes. Call, click or stop by the Gallery for the DL.
